Embryo Adoption

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart”

- Jeremiah 1:5

Rather than adopting a child who has already been born, embryo adoption allows families to begin the adoption journey nine months earlier and experience pregnancy and childbirth. Embryo donation is a new path to parenthood for couples struggling with infertility. There are currently over 650,000 frozen embryos stored in the United States alone. Over 3,000 children have been born through embryo donation.

Global Adoption, Counseling, Cultural Resources, Inc. has partnered with the National Embryo Donation Center (NEDC) in Knoxville, TN to offer families with this alternative. Families can screen and adopt frozen embryos donated by couples, following in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycle in fertility clinic. These embryos are then implanted into the adoptive mother at the NEDC clinic by their highly qualified medical staff. The NEDC average pregnancy Transfer rate is 57% and its live birth rate is 50%. Additional information concerning embryo adoption can be found by visiting www.embryodonation.org.

A family will first submit an application to Global Adoption, Counseling, Cultural Resources, Inc., to discuss the options for adoption in relation to their particular needs and interests. Once a family has decided on embryo adoption as their best option, the family will receive a check list to collect necessary documents and will be scheduled for interviews and visits to complete the adoption home study. At the same time, the family will contact the NEDC and complete the application and required preliminary forms. The family will be helped to prepare their life and home as their child grows, develops, and is born. The completed embryo adoption will be guided by post-adoption follow-up visits, much like it would be for traditional domestic and international adoption.

“To our future baby, whom we adopted as an embryo, you may not have mommy and daddy’s “ingredients,” but you most certainly have our hearts. You are a true gift to our family in every sense of the word; and we can’t wait to hold you in our arms.”
